19.00 O’clock in Spain… do Spaniards say “Buenas Tardes” or “Buenas Noches”? I don’t know. What I do know is that today the 69th edition of the Tour of Spain starts with an almost traditional stage in the Vuelta, the team time trial. Especially in the last editions of the Vuelta (seven times in the last 10 years), an “etapa de contrarreloj por equipos” has often been included in the route, normally as opening stage and many times when the evening has started. This year’s start location is Jerez de la Frontera , where cycling fans and occasional tourists will enjoy a local glass of Sherry while they watch the toreadors on their iron horses (instead of the famous Andalusian horses).
